Hi crafty friends! Peggy here with a new card for my month as a guest designer at Newton's Nook Designs and today I'm showing you some inspiration with the lovely Newton's Book Club Stamp Set! As you may have read in my bio I am also a book-lover. Of course this set appealed to me big time!

I love making bookmarks, but had seen an idea somewhere integrating it on a card. This would be awesome to give someone when gifting them a book or just as a card in the mail for a bookish friend. But I still wanted the card to look cute on display, even after removing the bookmark. I started out by creating some masks from three of the stamps from the Newton's Book Club Stamp Set. Next, I cut a card base and a slightly smaller panel to layer on top from some white cardstock. You can use any dies you have to create a rectangle. It doesn't need to be this rounded edges one I used.

A fun trick you can do to stretch your supplies is the one I used to create this bookmark. I took the smaller rectangle from my die set, ran it through my die cutting machine once for the full panel and then again offsetting the panel on the die, to make the panel approximately the width of a bookmark.I used a simple hole punch to make a hole for my ribbon at the top.

I secured the panels in my stamp positioner. This way I was able to stamp the kitty and sentiment where I wanted them in the same position on both panels. Once they were stamped I placed the masks over top and used a large text stamp to stamp around the images. I removed the masks and colored the images with my alcohol markers (Kitty is in Copic cool greys, books in various colors, send me a message if you are curious about a color number).

I blended a background on my card base through a stencil using Distress Oxide Candied Apple and Aged Mahogany. The top panel and the bookmark I made to look old using Tea Dye Distress Ink. I finished the images using some white gel pen and glossy accents. Next I put everything together attaching the bookmark with a removable glue dot. Happy crafting and happy reading!

Long distance hugs,

- Peggy

  1. Wonderful with background. I used the All Booked Up Dog on card entered in challenge.
