Thank You Lemon Card!

Today Ellen has created a gorgeous and colorful lemon card using a color wheel to help her pick colors! Scroll down to the end of this post to see her color wheel tips!

For this stunning card she started out with a beautifully inked background panel in bright red. She framed the panel with a yellow scalloped frame that was die cut using our Frames & Flags Die Set
Next she added a full lemon and lemon slice using our Lemon Twist Stamp Set, coloring them in gorgeous shades of yellow. She also added some pieces of lemon twists and little flowers from the same set, cutting all the images out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set.

For the sentiment, she created a custom message. She cut out the letters to spell "Thanks" using our Essential Alphabet Die Set. Then she added the "You are Amazing" sentiment from the Floral Roundabout Stamp Set, embossing it in white onto a banner from the Banner Trio Die Set. She matched the cardstock colors on the die cut letters and the banner so they coordinate perfectly together!

Using a Color Wheel

Below we have some tips from Ellen on how to use a color wheel to choose colors:

A color wheel is handy an essential tool for crafters. By organizing the colors in a circle, the wheel shows you what the relationship between different colors is, what the effect of mixing colors will be and which colors combine well with each other. Today I look at the Triadic colors. Those are three colors that are equally spread over the color wheel. These create a lively visual interest. It is therefore ideal to make a card with the correct contrast colors. Some palettes are brighter, while others are more refined.

Of course I colored the lemons yellow so I used that as a starting point. The other two colors are red and blue. You can of course also make adjustments by adding a lighter shade or some darker shade instead of sticking to the real color. I did the same with the blue color; I made it much lighter. I would never combine these colors myself but I think the card looks beautiful!
