One in a Melon Card by Larissa Heskett

One in a Melon Card by Larissa Heskett | Tumbling Hearts Stencil, Woodland Picnic Stamp Set, and Newton's Melon Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

One in a Melon!!

Today we have a duo of melon themed projects by Larissa that will make you smile! She was inspired to create a fun melon background after seeing this watermelon project on instagram by kaydemonbren8. Kay had used our Raindrops Stencil over a pink background to make a watermelon pattern.  On her project Larissa used our Tumbling Hearts Stencil to create a fun watermelon background pattern where the seeds are black hearts over a pink inked background! She then added a stripe of green sparkle to represent the watermelon rind! So cute!

One in a Melon Card by Larissa Heskett | Tumbling Hearts Stencil, Woodland Picnic Stamp Set, and Newton's Melon Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
She used this background pattern on two projects along with the image of the bear eating a watermelon from our Woodland Picnic Stamp Set. She cut the bears out using the coordinating
Woodland Picnic Die Set so that she could layer them over the background. The finishing touch was the sentiment "You're one in a melon" from the Newton's Melon Stamp Set.

Here is the card she created:

And here is the same pattern used on a tag for a little gift! She also used our Fancy Edges Tag Die Set to cut out the tag shape:

A Big Welcome to Amy Tsuruta + Design Team Recap!

We have a new addition to our Design Team!  A big warm welcome to Amy!

We are so excited to have Amy Tsuruta joining our team! We have always been big fans of Amy's work and are so happy to have her sharing and creating with our team on the Newton's Nook Designs blog! Her cards are filled with gorgeous color combos and creative layouts that will surely make you smile! Amy will begin designing with our team with the new Release in August and we can't wait to share what she creates!

Here's a little more about her and a fun project by her today!

Amy Tsuruta
Tsuruta Designs

Hey there, my name is Amy and I'm thrilled to be a new designer on the awesome Newton's Nook Designs' team!  I'm a Canadian living in Washington State.  I work part-time for a biotech company and the rest of the time you can usually find me in my craft room drinking coffee and designing cards. I remember being crafty when I was in elementary school but I feel like things really started when I signed up to be my youngest's co-op preschool's Scrapbook Coordinator. Honestly, I had never scrapbooked at that point but I had so much fun managing it and we still have that scrapbook from 19 years ago [wow].  My style has changed so much over the years, these days I'm smitten with pastels but I still love designing with bright and bold colors too.  You can find me on my blog or IG.

We even have a fun new project created by Amy to share with you today! She used our Lemon Twist Stamp Set to create a fun citrus themed card! She stamped the image of the lemon slice three times and colored it in orange, pink and yellow. She cut the slices out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set. Then she added them to a beautiful slimline card!

She used our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to create the fun slimline die cut shape with the trio of holes and for the background with the scalloped edge. She placed a slice of citrus over each circle cut out and then used our Essential Alphabet Die Set to add in the custom sentiment, "You are the zest" placed between the citrus slices! So clever!

We hope you enjoyed this project today by Amy! She will be back with us in a couple of weeks to help share our new August release! Until then, you can find more of her work over on her blog, Tsuruta Designs.

And a Now we'd like to give a BIG shout-out to the rest of our AWESOME Design Team!

We just LOVE our Design Team! We are so thankful to have all these lovely ladies staying on our team! They continue to amaze us each month with their incredible creativity!

Designer & Design Team Coordinator
Hi, I'm Samantha Mann and I couldn't be happier to continue for another term with Newton's Nook Designs!! My husband and I have lived all over the US, from Washington State to Florida, but we're currently in hot, humid, coastal South Carolina! We have two boys (who I usually call my little Menn, even if they're not-so-little anymore)! I have always been in love with school supplies (ever since elementary school when I would save my nickels to buy cute pencils or erasers!) and that love just grew and developed into my crazy obsession (read: passion!) of paper crafting! I love making cards and even dabble with the occasional scrapbook layout! You can always find me with some inky fingers and lots of ink blending! I'm definitely quirky, and love to make playful, humorous sentiments for my cards (and layouts)! I work full time for an advertising company and spend every other moment I can paper crafting, reading and enjoying the little moments in everyday family life.

Hello, I’m Ellen and I live a little further from the USA; I come from Belgium with my husband Davey.

I've always been artsy and even studied art. In my current job I don’t do anything creative and that’s why I really like to paint, draw and of course create cards in my free time. Even till Davey gets nuts of it haha! As a big Newton’s Nook Designs fan, I'm so blessed and happy to be a part of this awesome team for another term! I’m so curious what the next release will look like, so bring it on!

Hello! My name is Zsofia Molnar and I am a card maker from Hungary. I am thrilled to join this amazing Design Team. I live in beautiful Budapest with my 2 kids (9 and 6 years old) and the most loving husband ever. We are a truly trilingual family as my husband is Egyptian and we communicate with each other in English. I started paper crafting more or less 6 years ago when I was fascinated by all the pretty scrapbook layouts. I have never even made a single one, but rather fell in love with making cards and sharing handmade kindness with my family and friends. I am an addict since then, I have to be crafty every day to feel good. This is my little escape. I love cute critters, florals and I really enjoy building scenes with layers. I am curious to try new techniques but my favourites are still Copics and Distress inks. You can follow my crafty journey on my blog: www.safsafdesign.wordpress.com or on Instagram @safsafdesign2016.

Maria Russell

Hello stampers and crafters. My name is Maria Russell and I am so THRILLED to be a part of the Newton’s Nook Designs design team.  My husband and I have lived all over the world and we have two talented, beautiful children (now adults).

My love for paper crafting began in high school when my friends and I wrote each other letters, took photos, kept a journal and scrapbooks.  It kind of looked like a smash-book because I had everything in there from ticket stubs, to beautiful napkins, to candy wrapper.  Paper crafting is very therapeutic for me.  I only ventured into card making in 2013 and I am hooked!  I was really honored when one of my cards got published at Scrapbook and Cards magazine, Creative Cards Volume I in 2015.

I am so HAPPY to be a part of this amazing design team!  I’d be honored if you’d like to visit my blog: www.mariarusselldesigns.com

Hi, NND friends!  My name is Andrea, and I live in the beautiful state of Tennessee.  I'm wife to a wonderful, supportive man and mama to two human babies and two fur babies.  I originally got into papercrafting with scrapbooking, but a few years ago, I fell hard for cardmaking (I still scrapbook because I want to preserve my family's stories, but I spend way more time making cards!).  One of the first stamp companies I discovered when I started this hobby was Newton's Nook Designs.  I just love their adorable, whimsical images!  To be joining their Design Team is truly a dream come true, and I can't wait to share my love for NND with you!

Have a Corgeous Summer Slimline Card by Andrea Shell

"Corgeous" Summer!

Today we are headed back to the beach but this time we are featuring some of our favorite pups, corgis! Andrea used those cute corgis from our Corgi Beach Stamp Set to create a slimline card that is filled with summer fun! She started out by coloring two of the corgi images, one with a grass hula skirt and one riding a surfboard. She cut the images out using the coordinating Corgi Beach Die Set.

For the background panel she stenciled a seashell pattern using our Seashells Stencil. She then cut it into a long scalloped shape using the long frame die cut from our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. She added the square stitched frame with three windows using our Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set and used two of the stitched square interior cuts that you get when you get cut out the frame and created beach scenes on them. She used our Hills & Grass Stencil and our Waves & Splashes Stencil for the waves and land on the backgrounds.

To finish it out, in the center she added the sentiment "Have a corgeous summer" from the Corgi Beach Stamp Set.

Thank you, Andrea, for the "corgeous" summer inspiration!

Enjoy Life One Wave at a Time Card by Zsofia Molnar

Enjoy the Waves!

Today we are sharing a fun tropical card created by Zsofia that is perfect for a hot summer day! She created this picturesque scene featuring the kitty with a surfboard from our Newton's Perfect Wave Stamp Set. She colored the image with alcohol markers, giving the girl kitty a fun bright pink swimsuit to match the flowers on the surfboard! How cute! She cut the image out using the coordinating Newton's Perfect Wave Die Set. Behind the kitty, a tropical beach scene was created by using our Sea Borders Die Set to add a wave and our Land Borders Die Set to create the sandy hill shape. She added distress ink to both pieces to add dimension and added some dot effects on the sand too. In the sky she added sun and vellum clouds that were die cut out using our Sky Scene Builder Die Set. The sentiment, "enjoy life one wave at a time" was stamped onto one of the vellum clouds before she added it to her card.  A few sea birds were hand drawn into the sky for a finishing touch!

The stitched edged rectangle shape that frames the scene was cut using our Frames & Flags Die Set.  For the background she added a postage edged frame that was cut out using our Framework Die Set from tropical patterned paper.

Here is a close-up so you can see the vellum clouds:

I Like Your Cat-itude Card by Larissa Heskett

I Like Your Cat-itude Card by Larissa Heskett | Cat-itude Stamp Set, Meow Stencil, Frames Squared Die Set and Frames & Flags Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Cat-itude!

Today Larissa is sharing a sparkly stenciled card that is filled with cat-itude! She created a gorgeous cat themed background by using our Meow Stencil. To foil a stenciled background you can use Deco Foil Transfer gel over the stencil. Once the gel is completely dry, you just add the foil of your choice and heat set it with a laminator! The ombré of colors used on this card by Larissa are stunning!

After her foiled background was completed, she added the sentiment "I like your cat-itude" from our Cat-itude Stamp Set, stamped onto a circle that was die cut using our Frames Squared Die Set. She also used the scalloped edge from our Frames & Flags Die Set to create the black frame.

Here is a close-up so you can see all the sparkle:

Happy Birthday on the Farm Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Happy Birthday on the Farm Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Bleat Stamp Set, Moo Stamp Set, Neigh Stamp Set, Land Borders Die Set and Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Happy Birthday on the Farm!

Today Ellen has created an amazing Happy Birthday card with a farm scene that uses several NND stamp sets together!

She started by creating a slimline card base using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to create a long card with a scalloped edge. This long format is perfect for creating scenes! Next, she stamped and colored farm themed images to add to her scene. She used the cow and barn from our Moo Stamp Set, coloring them in shades of brown and cutting them out with the coordinating Moo Die Set. The cute goat is from our Bleat Stamp Set and was colored so beautifully with extra dot details! She cut the goad out using the coordinating Bleat Die Set. For the Horse, she used the image of the horse looking over his shoulder from our Neigh Stamp Set. Again, she colored the image beautifully and cut it out with the coordinating Neigh Die Set. Last, she added in a couple of little chicks using the image from our Newton's Easter Basket Stamp Set.

Happy Birthday on the Farm Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Bleat Stamp Set, Moo Stamp Set, Neigh Stamp Set, Land Borders Die Set and Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

To create the scene she used our Land Borders Die Set for the hill and the grassy edge, adding on distress inks and splatter for textures. The Happy Birthday sentiment was created by combining a die cut "Happy" using our Holiday Greetings Die Set with the word Birthday from the Bleat Stamp Set. So cute!

Isn't it fun how you can mix and match these farm sets together? You can find them all and a few more in our Farm Category here!

Tips on creating this card

Below we have some tips from Ellen on how this card was created:

How to create a longer die cut border:
Happy Birthday on the Farm Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Bleat Stamp Set, Moo Stamp Set, Neigh Stamp Set, Land Borders Die Set and Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
You can make your border dies longer by matching the end with each other. Match the piece of paper that’s already cut with the beginning of the dies. Then you cut it again.

How to create a card base with a die cut shape:

Happy Birthday on the Farm Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Bleat Stamp Set, Moo Stamp Set, Neigh Stamp Set, Land Borders Die Set and Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
  1. (left photo) fold your cardstock in half using a bone folder.
  2. (center photo) Cut out your panel with the same die you used for your card front. Pay attention you do not cut all the way up to your fold. This makes it possible to have a shaped card.
  3. (right photo) Glue your card front on top of your card base. They match perfectly because you used the same die for it.

We hope you enjoyed this fun card today and tips from Ellen! To see more unique creations by Ellen, you can visit her over at her blog Crafty Ellen!
