Happy Birthday Card by Tatiana Trafimovich

Happy Birthday Card with cat and martini by Tatiana Trafimovich | Newton Celebrates Stamp Set and Confetti Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

A Happy Birthday Cocktail!

Newton is ready to send cheers to a happy birthday on this card by Tatiana! She created this card using the fun image of the kitty in the martini glass from our Newton Celebrates Stamp Set.  She colored the image of the kitty, birthday hat and streamers using Tombow markers. Isn't it so cute how she added stripes to the kitty too? Then she trimmed the images out using the Newton Celebrates Die Set. For her card base she added a fun purple and blue confetti background using our Confetti Stencil with Distress inks to add a background that's perfect for a celebration! She finished out the card by adding the "happy" and "Birthday" onto the bottom. Both words are also included in the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set

Doctor Who inspired Dog Card by Nakaba Rager | Woof Pack Stamp Set and Essential Alphabet Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

DOGtor Who?!

Today we are sharing a fun Doctor Who inspired card by Naki! If you watch the tv series Doctor Who you will probably remember the episode wore 3D glasses. Naki was inspired by that episode as she created this fun dog card for a family member who also loves the show!

She started our with the large image of dogs from our Woof Pack Stamp Set. She stamped the image in a light color to create a softer edge and used colored pencils to color in all those fun dogs! Then she added on 3D glasses to each dog using the sunglass image and die cut from the Loveable Llamas Stamp Set and Die Set. She turned the sunglasses into 3D glasses by adding blue and red on each one. Then she finished off the card by creating  the word "DOGTOR" across the bottom using our Essential Alphabet Die Set.  This die set is perfect for creating just the right word for your card!

Even if you aren't familiar with the tv show, you'll have to admit this card is super fun! I think these dogs would make a great audience for a 3D movie too!

Happy PURR-thday!

Today's card by Holly is PURRfect for a birthday! She colored that cute kitty floating into the sky with his bundle of birthday balloons from our Newton's Birthday Balloons Stamp Set. It's so cute how she added in the multiple shades of orange on the fur and the cute white gel pen accents. Then she cut the image out using Newton's Birthday Balloons Die Set to add it to her card. For her card base she created a fun cloudy sky using layers of clouds that were cut out with our Sky Borders Die Set. She added some fun blue watercolor behind them for a fun sky effect! Foxy Winter Sweater Card by January Guest Designer Toni Maddox

Hi, everyone!  Toni of Frankie Helps Craft here with you for my last guest design post. Sigh.  I've had such a great time playing with NND products and sharing my creations with you. I'll miss you guys!  And thanks to Newton's Nook for having me as a guest designer.  It's truly been an honor!

Foxy Winter Sweater Card by January Guest Designer Toni Maddox | Sweater Weather Stamp Set and Evergreens Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

For my final card I combined a couple of my favorites I've used this month, the Sweater Weather set and Evergreens Stencil.  I started the card by masking and sponging Evergreens Stencil using Distress Oxides in Mowed Lawn and Shabby Shutters.  I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black. Once that was dry (what a mess getting Versafine your embossing plate, trust me) I embossed the background using a sweater knit folder.  As a knitter, this makes me happy dance.

I colored up the  Sweater Weather fox, adding lots of details like fur lines using Copics and a white pigment pen. I added a few sequin snowflakes too for additional interest. Can you see I used a puffy snow embossing pen on the hat as well? I love this combo of texture, shine and color.

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Peony Blooms and Lovely Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Coloring flowers with Colored Pencils by Ellen

Today we have two fun coloring tutorial to share by Ellen! She's showing you step by step how she colored the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set.

Step by Step flower Coloring Tutorial:

First of all I use Derwent Coloursoft pencils, these are the “copic markers” in a pencil formula. What I mean to say, is that they are made for blending. So if you want to add more details on your coloring, you should use other type of pencils.

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Peony Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • Picture 1 (left): I started with a stamped image of a flower from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set. To begin coloring, color the light and dark areas from your flower petals. I used a darker purple C240 and a soft pink C170. I try to use the lines of the illustration and color over them and make them longer with my pencils.
  • Picture 2 (center):This looks like I colored a lot more, but actually I colored with a little bit of a lighter color just above the purple (C260) and further I went with a light blue on areas that did need more highlights.
  • Picture 3 (right): Then I fill in all left over space with a pink pencil (C210) and went further in the dark areas with the C280.

  • Picture 4 (left): As last step I colored the dark petals from dark to light with C280 C330 and C300.
  • Picture 5 (center): The next flower is a lot more easy to color.  This is a small bloom from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. I used a red and a oranger color on the center of the flower ( C120 and C550).
  • Picture 6 (right): I did go lighter with the a softer orange and yellow (C080 and C040).
Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lovely Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • Picture 7 (left): The leaves are also more easy. These leaves are also from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. First I layered down the darker colors C400 and C500.
  • Picture 8 (center): Afterwards I used a in between green color C450.
  • Picture 9 (right): The last color is very bright C460. I color the complete leave with them and did go over it with a blender pencil to make the transition go smoother.
Once the flowers and leaves were all colored, Ellen created an awesome card using them.
Here is a another look at the finished card:

Ellen clustered the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set over each corner of a purple panel. For the panel she used our stitched rectangle die cut from our Frames & Flags Die Set and added a quilted pattern over the top using another brands die set. She added in the custom sentiment using the "welcome" from our Loveable Laundry Stamp Set along with the custom sentiment "Noor" (the name of the baby) using our Essential Alphabet Die Set withe some glittery paper.

I hope you enjoyed this card by Ellen today and learned a few tips about coloring with pencils!

Warm Winter Wishes Card by January Guest Designer Toni Maddox

Hi, everyone!  Toni of Frankie Helps Craft guest designing with you again this week!

Warm Winter Wishes Card by January Guest Designer Toni Maddox | Winter Memories Stamp Set and Evergreens Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

My card this time uses the Winter Memories silhouettes set. I love silhouettes as they allow me to go nuts on the background as I did here with a rainbow Evergreens tree backdrop. I sponged them using a variety of Distress Oxides. Isn't that fun?!

Originally I had intended to only stamp the silhouettes in Versafine Onyx Black but decided I wanted it to pop more so I embossed the figures. Love that shine. I left the sentiment and snowflakes plain black so they wouldn't compete too much with the couple. This will definitely brighten up someone's  winter day.
