Easter Kitty Card by March Guest Designer Mindy Eggen

Today we have our first post from our March Guest Designer, Mindy Eggen! We are so excited to have Mindy designing with our products this month! You are going to love her adorable card layouts and beautiful coloring!  We wait to share what she creates with our stamps! Keep reading to find out more about Mindy today and to check out her first project below!

Hello! My name is Mindy from Mindy Eggen Design and I am super stoked to be joining Newton's Nook as a guest designer this month! I adore these images and love watching what they will be doing each month. Art and paper crafting has been in my blood since grade school and hasn't slowed down. I have a very supportive husband of 10 years and we have two wonderful children together. My daughter Ali is 12 and loves crafting as much as me and Dalton is 7 who is autistic and no surprise loves to color and paint like mommy! My medium of choice is copic markers but the real fun comes with creating backgrounds and watching the card take on a personality when it all comes together. The joy these cards bring when given to people is the icing on the cake!

Welcome everyone! I am super excited to say that I'm guest designing over at Newton's Nook Designs. They have some super adorable images and I love seeing what they will be doing each month. PLUS on top of amazing stamps, they have dies and stencils too!! Be sure to check out their site!

For my first project, I'm creating a card with Newton's Easter Basket Stamp Set. Isn't Newton adorable? And don't forget that cute little rabbit tucked in by the eggs. I decided for my card to do a little masking. I have a process video of my card on my Youtube channel.

I'm starting off my taking a piece of 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Neenah white cardstock and stamping my image using My Favorite Things Extreme Black which is a copic friendly ink. I like to use my Misti tool just in case it doesn't stamp completely for me the first time, I can easily stamp it again for perfect alignment. Next, I created a mask for my image using some Inkadinkado Masking Paper and attached that to my stamped image to protect it.

Next, I'm going to add some painters tape to section off where I want to ink blend. I purposely lined it up so part of the image would be above the ink. I think this helps draw the attention that its masked off and Newton won't get lost in the blending. I'm going to apply some Shaded Lilac distress oxide to the bottom and Mermaid Lagoon distress oxide to the top portion. To add a little more interest, I'm going to use some of the smaller images from this stamp set and randomly stamp them in my blended area. I'll use Simon Says Stamp Hot Mama on the Shaded Lilac and Catherine Pooler's Something Borrowed onto the Mermaid Lagoon.

I'll be honest, at this point I thought I overdid because there is a lot to the image itself but I kept going! I colored my image with copic markers adding a little shading here and there to show some depth and dimension. I also grounded my image by coloring on top of the Shaded Lilac ink.

I finished off the card by stamping the sentiment on to the panel and adding craft foam with double sided adhesive to attach to my A2 size cardbase. I am really glad I kept going with this card as I love how it all came together! This is such a great image and so much more on this stamp set!
